Reeses is at the specialist for a follow up. She isn’t healing.
They restitched her incision to see if they can get a better grasp and lesson the chance of it opening again. We wait again a week or so before treatment can start.
They also want a ct scan. It’s very costly. The operating vet stated they took out what he could, so specialist wants to see what she is dealing with. This might be where we pass, we just can’t afford a 1,500.00 scan with all the treatment costs.
We’ll have to mull this over. We want her to be happy, and do everything to have her well so it weighs heavy on us.
More kennel time, less movement and different pain meds incase she is in pain but not showing it. We will follow up with anything additional when she gets picked up.
So sorry to hear that Reeses is having these complications. I know how that is. My Dog had complications and trouble healing also. They almost had to do another surgery but just about the time we were going to schedule it she got better all of a sudden. It was 5 weeks before she turned the corner and it was a very difficult time. And the money part of it was very stressful also. We ended up spending more on her actual recovery than the surgery itself. It was all worth it though. After she finally did fully recover we had wonderful times together. Valentina lived for 7 months after her amputation and I wouldn’t trade those times for the world. I know it’s hard right now so try to hang in there. I will pray that you can come to a decision that you are comfortable with. Sincerely hoping everything works out for you. There are payment plans available at some vets offices if you think you could manage that. But I completely understand if you are unable to afford the costly treatments. It is such a hard decision.

Sorry that you have hit a bump in the road! Recovery isnt always smooth. It took us 3 weeks before it felt like we were heading in the right direction. Sending Reese healing wishes and strength for you!
Gosh, I am so sorry you guys are having complications. I’m confused about why the specialist wants a CT – to determine what exactly was removed at amputation or to determine what the problem may be with the healing process? I would think she could just talk to the operating vet about the amp and whether he left any bone or shoulder muscle, etc. without the need for such an expensive test. : (
several of our tripawds have taken longer to heal, so know that it’s not just you guys. valentina comes to mine (a great dane). we totally understand the issues of cost, and if the CT scan isn’t pivotal, then know that you are doing all you can for reeses and she knows that. hope the re-stitch does the job and you guys can turn the corner on this.

Update:
@Zeuspod: The CT scan is to look at where the soft tissue tumor was removed and see how much tumor remains. The specialist talked with our primary who attended while the surgeon amputated and removed the soft tissue mass. They believe they did not get out all of the tumor.
So, we restitched today with a different pattern and already it looks better. I fulfilled the RX for the pain meds and they gave me more antibiotic. Strict monitoring of her activity is in order so that way she is rested and healing.
A seroma was stopping the tissue from bonding, so a more assertive stitch should *fingers crossed* help.
We go back in a week and half to visit with a visiting oncologist and hopefully get stitches out.
We are all in good spirits, but especially Reeses. She is fantastic.
